Cuban Boxers Advance in Czech Grand Prix

HAVANA TIMES, March 23 — Cuban boxers Jose Angel Larduet and Erislandy Savon advanced during Cuba’s debut in the Grand Prix that began on Wednesday in Usti Nad Labem in the Czech Republic, reported the Cuban Information Agency.

Larduet stopped British slugger Simon Vallily after an exchange that left the Englishman’s response lacking. Likewise, Savon proved too much for Russia’s Ilya Rudenko, who the Cuban defeated by a wide 20-6 margin.

Equally exquisite was the debut of heavyweight Julio Cesar La Cruz, world light-weight titleholder Yasnier Toledo, and welterweight Arisnoidys Despaigne.

The semifinals will take place today (Friday) and the closing of the competition will be held on Saturday.
