HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 7 — During yesterday’s closing ceremony of the International Year for People of African Descent, Cuba demanded the former colonial powers to honor their historic debt to those who suffered from slavery and the slave trade, reported Prensa Latina news agency.
“Africa is now forced to spend much more on servicing its debt than on education and health care combined,” said Pedro Nunez Mosquera, the permanent representative of Cuba to the UN.
“They must cease their wars and military intervention cloaked in interventionist doctrines that violate international law and are aimed primarily at ensuring the control of the mineral resources of the African continent,” Nunez Mosquera insisted.
