Global Exchange Award for Cuban Five

HAVANA TIMES — The United States NGO Global Exchange issued their Human Rights Award 2014 to the five Cuban agents convicted in the US, reported Prensa Latina.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez won the award, among many other nominees for their outstanding work for justice and human rights, said the NGO in a statement.

The award will be officially presented on May 8th at a gala to be held in San Francisco, California.  The Via Campesina, an international movement of farmers, and other groups will also receive recognition.

In previous editions the Global Exchange award has honored artist Harry Belafonte , Paul Farmer, physician and activist working in Haiti, and writers Alice Walker and Eduardo Galeano.
