Hundreds of Protesters Arrested in Hong Kong as New Security Law Goes into Effect

 

HAVANA TIMES – In Hong Kong, Chief Executive Carrie Lam marked the 23rd anniversary of the formal handover of the former British colony to China with a flag-raising ceremony.

Meanwhile, officials banned an annual pro-democracy march for the first time, arresting at least 200 unauthorized protesters under a controversial new security law giving China sweeping powers over Hong Kong.
