International Orchids Workshop to Be Held in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — Botanists and orchid collectors from the Americas and Europe will participate in the 8th international workshop on this family of plants, which is set to be held at the orchid center and garden in the Cuban town of Soroa from October 23 to 25.

According to a report from the Prensa Latina news agency, experts from Ecuador, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Panama, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Cuba will present their investigative findings with regard to the ecology, conservation and handling, in vitro reproduction, molecular biology, phytopathology and phytogeography of orchids.

Being maintained at the moment in Soroa are some 500 species of orchids, both native and exotic species, some 300 indigenous strains have been reported while on the island, almost a third of them located in this western province and in neighboring Pinar del Rio Province.
