Santiago de Cuba Revolution Square Gets Major Repairs

HAVANA TIMES — Reparation work is undertaken at the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, reports the Granma newspaper.

The actions include the treatment of the interior of the monument to Antonio Maceo on horseback and the waterproofing of the building that houses the underground protocol room, the holographic exhibition of the hero’s personal items and the El Vial art gallery.

Maintenance work will also be carried out on the electrical system and the steel structure that supports precast slabs. In addition, the elevator installed during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI, will be moved to a permanent location.

Since its founding 22 years ago, this is the first repair of this magnitude of the plaza, declared a national monument in 2011.
