HAVANA TIMES — Most young people in Cuba prefer to work in the public sector, according to a study released on Thursday at the International Congress of Research on Youth, reported the Prensa Latina.
According to the article, government employment policies such as labor standards, worker protections and job skills training explain this trend, reflected in investigations carried out by the Centre for the Study of Youth on the island.
During the conference, youth were said to be dissatisfied over issues such as low wages, which is why many of them have joined the self-employment sector in order to improve their economic situation and legalize their previous status of “informal workers.”
The conference concludes today at the Havana Convention Center, where it has been in session since Wednesday and attended by delegates from 13 nations.
