Tribute to Cuban Artist Wifredo Lam

HAVANA TIMES — The Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center will be celebrating the 110th anniversary of the birth of the most internationally recognized Cuban visual artists through exhibits, panel discussions and videos, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Among the key actions highlighted will be a panel discussion on December 7 at the center. In this, Lam will be remembered by important figures of Cuban culture who knew the artist.

On Tuesday, December 11, four French documentaries will be screened on the Cuban artist.  In this will be significant involvement by the daughter and granddaughter of the French theoretical surrealist Andre Breton, an associate of Lam from when he lived in Europe.

Wifredo Lam, who was born on December 8, 1902, introduced black culture into Cuban painting and developed refreshing work that integrates African and Chinese elements.
