Women’s Cuban Chess Championship Set

HAVANA TIMES — The National Chess Championship for women will be held from January 24 to February 5 in the sports museum in the eastern province of Holguin, announced Cuba’s JIT website.

The tournament will include about 20 chess players from the island, including seven grand masters. Expected to participate on this occasion is the current national champion, Lisandra Llaudy Pupo, who has stated that her aim is to retain the title, though she recognizes this won’t be easy.

Organizers are finalizing the details of the matches being held in that province for the sixth consecutive time, though on this occasion the players will play in a 10-round Swiss tournament.
