Cuban Boxer Ramón Luis Leaves Team in Mexico
HAVANA TIMES — Boxer Ramón Luis, one of the leaders of Cuba Domadores (Tamers) in the World Series of Boxing tournament, abandoned the Cuban delegation that disputed the Pan American Championship in Tijuana, Mexico, reports AFP.
Luis, 21, and the Chile 2014 Pan American champion, had thus far three wins and one defeat in the semi-professional WSB series. He was one of the key fighters on the Cuban squad that will face the Azarbiayan Baku Fires for the title later this month.
This is the second flight of a Cuban fighter in less than a month, said state television, calling the leaks “a despicable act.”
The exits continue despite the Cuban government last November approved a new remuneration policy that raises the salaries of athletes and coaches.
