Roberto Salas “Nostalgia” Photo Expo

HAVANA TIMES, June 24  – Roberto Salas is a unique photographer. His initial and most recognized work recreated the epic events of the Cuban Revolution. For decades, its heroes and the culminating moments of that history dominated his photographic art.

Later he worked with the human body: nudes and portraits have sprung from his lens.

Experimentation has never been his enemy; that’s why he turns to it when he needs to, be it with tobacco leaves or Yagruma trees superimposed on female bodies.

Or, like in this case, he brings us a work of digital manipulation: Nostalgias, on display through July 12 at the Fototeca de Cuba (307 Mercaderes Street in Old Havana).

The city is his source of inspiration.  Old facades, rundown buildings, pockmarked walls, and the streets and corners of Havana all glow under cloudy skies, inevitably gray.

It’s a chance to appreciate the most recent work from this photographer who loves Havana and the experiences that he has had here.
