NY Gal Defies Travel Ban on Cuba
HAVANA TIMES, July 4 — What could be more patriotic than defying a law that the vast majority of US citizens feel is wrong? That’s what Syracuse resident Madelaine Greacen will do later this month when she goes to Cuba to deliver humanitarian aid.
For nearly fifty years a parade of 11 US governments have forbid Americans from traveling to the neighboring Caribbean island nation without special US Treasury Department permission and have imposed a choking economic blockade.
Greacen, 28, told the Syracuse Post-Standard, “It’s trying to send a message to legislators and the rest of our government that what’s happening is not OK and the quality of life there is affected by the blockade.” She added, “It’s time for the evolution of this relationship to change.”
The Christian Brothers Academy graduate will be taking part in the Pastors for Peace U.S. Friendship Caravan to Cuba later this month.
