Aroldis Chapman Becomes a Yankee

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban lefthander Aroldis Chapman was traded to the New York Yankees by the Cincinnati Reds for four players, MLB reported today.

The Yankees announced that they acquired the Reds all-star closer in exchange for right-handers Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis, along with infielders Eric Jagielo and Tony Rend.

Chapman, 27, had a 1.63 ERA with 33 saves in 65 games for the Reds during the 2015 season. He struck out 116 batters in 66.1 innings and finished with 4-4 record. The lefty from Holguin is on record as today’s fastest pitcher with numerous throws recorded well over 100 MPH.

During his six-year career with the Reds, Chapman has compiled a 2.17 ERA in 324 games with 146 saves and 546 strikeouts.

Chapman has one year left on his current US $30.25 million contract and could become a free agent after next season.

The former member of the Cuban National Team has been on the last four National League MLB All-Star teams.
