An Unexpected and Wonderful Experience

Let’s help by promoting Havana Times

HAVANA TIMES — For a few days now, some Havana Times writers have been busy with a project to promote our website. Video interviews have been recorded, something unusual for us, although this is how you raise money in the rest of the world.

Living this experience has been truly wonderful, as we have all thought about our points of view and our hope to keep the different subjects which appear in this publication going. A lot was also said about the problems we are up against due to a lack of financial resources, a lack of cameras, laptops and other information technology.

Among us, there is a great desire to learn more about journalism, photography and video editing, anything that can make our articles be of a higher level and to offer better content to HT readers.

Only two of us are journalists; there are painters, university professors, writers, restorers, art experts and people who have other jobs, however, we try to exceed ourselves and to write articles which are the truest depiction possible of what’s happening in the country where we were born and that we worry so much about.

Havana Times speaks for itself; its writers are an interesting and charismatic bunch. This publication is like no other dealing with Cuba, it’s a place for us to reflect upon the past, the present and the future, with our unique perspectives on social, political and cultural life in Cuba. You can enjoy videos, photo features, as well as Diary entries and a Photography Competition. A great variety to suit every taste and audience.

We already have some commentators who make up a part of the HT family, we hope that the many people who also read us, come out of their silence and give us their opinions.

Anybody who visits and wants to send a small contribution to the HT will be greatly appreciated as this platform needs to find a way to keep going. Our donation campaign will begin in the coming months when the video promos are ready.

I can’t forget to extend our thanks to Alejandro, a friend who came from far away to carry out this non-profit project from the heart. Thank you, again!

We hope that Havana Times has a long and prosperous life!

Irina Pino: I was born in the middle of shortages in those sixties that marked so many patterns in the world. Although I currently live in Miramar, I miss the city center with its cinemas and theaters, and the bohemian atmosphere of Old Havana, where I often go. Writing is the essential thing in my life, be it poetry, fiction or articles, a communion of ideas that identifies me. With my family and my friends, I get my share of happiness.

  • I wish Circles Robinson and the entire family of HT contributors all the best. I hope that more of the Cuban writers will be able to comment on their articles in the English as well as the Spanish versions. I look forward to supporting the blog in every way possible.
