French Painter Kleinmann Shows in Havana

HAVANA TIMES, November 4.— French painter Alain Kleinmann (Paris, 1953) has chosen Cuba to organize his first Latin American exposition under the title: “Viajero del tiempo: Alain Kleinmann en La Havana” (Time traveler: Alain Kleinmann in Havana).

Kleinmann has exhibited his work at the Pompidou Museum in Paris, at the Velasquez Palace in Madrid and at many other important cultural institutions in Europe.

The painter presents the public with a series of works mainly inspired by Havana buildings, from which he takes stairways, porches, iron grilles and walls as fundamental icons and he combines them with cultural references of 19th century France.

In an interview with a local newspaper, Kleinmann said that since he visited Cuba for the first time some years ago he became obsessed with Havana’s architecture and since that occasion has taken many photographs and made drawings of the Havana buildings.

The 44-work exhibit includes paintings on canvas, mixed techniques and engravings. It will be showing until November 17 at the Universal Art building of the National Fine Arts Museum located facing the capital’s Central Park.
