Cuba 2nd at Dutch Baseball Tourney

HAVANA TIMES, July 19 — The Haarlem Baseball Week came to a close on Sunday with Cuba winning a rematch against The Netherlands but still finishing in second place to the hosts who had already clinched the championship.

The Netherlands played several reserves on Sunday and managed a 5-5 tie going into the bottom of the seventh, but then the Cubans rallied for one run and six more in the eighth to end the scoring with a 12-5 win.  Cuba fell 10-0 to The Netherlands earlier in the tournament.

Norberto Gonzalez picked up the win with four scoreless innings in relief.  Angel Peña gave up three runs in five innings and Yoandry Portal gave up two more without getting an out.

Alexei Bell had a homer, two RBIs and scored three times for Cuba.  Yunier Medoza and two hits and drove in three.

HT will be bringing our readers a final Harleem Tournament Report from Cuban Baseball Expert Peter C. Bjarkman.

  • did you ever watched the WBC? The Netherlands beat the Dominicans twice and played everybody 1 run games..where have you been?
the Netherlands team have been one of the top 5 teams in baseball in the last 10/15 years….their players are from willemstad curazao…they are really good, they can play and beat anybody///and dont forget..this is not the Team Cuba…you will see at the Japan University games, this was just a Team..
Despite that , i do agree, Cuba should not lose against them….but again..
the Netherlands are a really good Baseball Team..they can beat you with 3 hits, with great pitching , then the next day you can beat them 15-0…then they can come back and beat you again 2-1
Ask the Dominican Republic, P Rico , Mexico and Venezuela….they can be a real [pain in the Butt

  • How the hell can the dutch beat cubans at baseball? Outrageous and incomprehensible.
