Vatican Promotes Cuba Cardinal Ortega

HAVANA TIMES, March 3 — Pope Benedict XVI named Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega as member of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, which advises the churches in the continent, reported IPS, quoting the Miami-based El Nuevo Herald. Ortega has been the government’s principal interlocutor in the negotiations for the release of political prisoners, which began in 2010.
