HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 17 — The same Miami court judge that sentenced the Cuban Five to long prison terms back in 2001 for conspiracy to commit espionage and other crimes has now continued her vendetta against Rene Gonzalez, the first of the five men to be released from prison.

Gonzalez, 55, a US born Cuban, is scheduled to be released on October 7th after serving 13 years for a crime he and his compatriots maintain they never committed.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions has challenged the legal grounds behind their arrest and numerous lawyers associations and human rights groups, including Amnesty International, consider the court proceedings in their trail to have been highly bias.

Obliged to live on probation after his release for three more years, Gonzalez had requested the court back in February to allow him to return to his family in Cuba as soon as he is freed, citing among the reasons the danger he could face from Miami-based Cuban exile terrorist groups.

However in the ruling issued on Friday, Judge Joan A. Lenard denied the request to modify the conditions for Gonzalez’ probation.  She said it could be considered at a later date, noted Cubadebate.cu.

  • The Cuban Five convictions and their subsequent abusive treatment during their incarceration has nothing to do with the facts of the case which were ignored in order to impose a harsh sentence..
Since the United States is the driving force behind the 50 year war on the Cuban people and the judicial system and politically appointed judges are part and parcel of that system, the judges who depend on being politically correct for their livelihood can not be impartial and keep their jobs.
As long as Obama and the oligarchy that is the real government of United States wishes to continue the war against the Cuban people’s revolution and more specifically the success and/or survival of the dreaded socialist economy, we cannot expect any sort of justice for these five victims victims of that war.
