Biotech Conference Ends Today in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, March 8 — The 2012 International Biotechnology Conference concludes today at the Havana Convention Center with a presentation devoted to hepatitis B infections and cancer biology and treatment, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The event was attended by 600 scientific experts from 41 nations, who discussed research and clinical trials for vaccines against various types of tumors, HIV/AIDS and dengue.

American doctor Peter Agre, who is a professor at Duke University in North Carolina and a 2003 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry, highlighted the achievements of Cuba in the elimination of malaria. “We have much to learn from the Cubans,” the expert stressed.
