From the U.S. how can I get additional information on visas for traveling to Cuba?

If you live in the U.S., the best place to get the information you need is from the Cuban Interests Section located in Washington DC. Cuba and the U.S. do not have embassies, they have “interests sections”, which carry out their respective diplomatic and consular responsibilities.

The Cuban Consulate in Washington DC can indicate to you what kind of visa you need, what it will cost and where it would be most appropriate for you to obtain it (whether in the US before departure, in Mexico, or in Cuba).

Notes:

• Phoning the consulate tends to be more difficult than phoning the interest section, yet you have to talk to the consulate for issues regarding visas, etc. They use a touch?tone phone waiting/re?directing system which, like all such systems, can often be time-consuming and tedious, but if you simply call and wait, an English-speaking operator eventually attends.

• Visas through the Cuban Consulate frequently take at least three weeks to process, thus it’s advisable not to wait until the last minute to contact them.
