Eleventh Havana Biennial Ends

HAVANA TIMES — The Eleventh Biennial of Havana, the largest visual arts event on the island on a biannual basis, closes its doors today after having stimulated the social imagery of Cubans, a theme that prevailed throughout the event.

According to the Prensa Latina news agency, about 180 artists from 43 countries — with their various styles and artistic approaches — came to the Cuban capital to present their works in galleries, parks, facilities and other open spaces.

Highlights of the event included works by South African artist Steven Cohen, Austria’s Hermann Nitsch, Batoul Shimi of Morocca, and Palestinian creator Rafat Asad, as well as other important figures of Cuban contemporary art such as Alexis “Kcho” Leyva and Manuel Mendive.
