TVs and Washing Machines from Miami to Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — A shipment of 66,000 pounds of goods from Miami arrived in Havana on Friday on board the Ana Cecilia, the boat owned by the International Port Corp (CPI) for sending freight to Cuba.

According to the Café Fuerte website, the cargo that was sent included large numbers of televisions, washing machines, bicycles, masonry tools, auto parts, clothing and medicine for delivery to residents on the island.

“The popular response to our service has been massive,” said Leonardo Sanchez Adega, an IPC representative. “We’re really surprised, because every day we’re servicing between 100 and 150 customers.”

The cost of sending a 21-pound package is now $128, but that could increase with the application of new customs tariffs in Cuba on September 3, said the entrepreneur.

IPC is licensed by the US Treasury Department to conduct these operations, which are a first between Havana and Miami in the past 50 years.
