Missile Crisis Discussed in Cuba
HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban Academy of History is convening a scientific workshop next week in Havana to discuss the Cuban Missile Crisis, reported the Granma newspaper.
Scholars and people involved in the events will address episodes that in October 1962 pushed the world close to a nuclear holocaust. This was during the height of the Cold War, when the superpowers of the epoch — the Soviet Union and the United States — confronted each other.
According to historical sciences expert Dr. Thomas Diez, it’s regrettable that the lessons learned from that crisis did not translate into the beginning of a process of global disarmament and political dialogue aimed at finding solutions to the problems of humanity.
