Elections in Cuba Extended in Provinces Affected by Rain
HAVANA TIMES — The National Electoral Commission (CEN) extended the holding of municipal elections in the eastern provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Camaguey and Ciego de Avila, which have been hit by heavy rains, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
“The decision was made to accommodate people who were interested in exercising their right to vote at the time of the closing of area schools affected by the bad weather,” said CEN vice president Rosa Charroo.
The Electoral Law, in effect on the island since 1992, provides for the closing of the polls at 18:00 local time, at which time the public counting of the ballots begins.
CEN will provide preliminary results of the elections today at a press conference.
