Cuba Referendum on New Labor Law
HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban government will call a referendum on the new draft Labor Code, regulations that will including standards for cuentapropistas (private sector workers) on the island, reported EFE.
The new Labor Code “should constitute a key instrument of the economic updating process” of the country, said Ricardo Alarcon, the president of the National Assembly, speaking at the last plenary session of the current legislature, which approved the decision.
Alarcon stressed the importance of the agreement “because it offers the public the opportunity to participate in the adoption of the document.”
The consultation process, under the resolution adopted by the assembly, will be organized and controlled by committees of parliament, together with the Cuban trade union federation and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
