Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega Officiates Mass in El Salvador
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega presided Sunday at the closing Mass of the Fifth National Eucharistic Congress in El Salvador, as a special envoy of Pope Francisco, reported Prensa Latina.
During his homily in San Salvador, Ortega spoke in favor of the canonization of the martyr Bishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero, killed by death squads in 1980.
Ortega also attended the celebrations for the centennial of the creation of the Archdiocese of San Salvador.
Cardinal Ortega arrived in San Salvador last Friday and returns to Havana on Monday.
