Ortega’s Police Detain Pedro Joaquin Chamorro Barrios

Chamorro Barrios is the 21st detainee in the latest repressive wave of the Ortega-Murillo regime that criminalizes opponents.

In the last month, 20 people were jailed in Nicaragua, as part of a wave of arrests. The number of political prisoners is now over 140.

Nicaraguan National Police detained Mendoza and raided his home in Managua. His family has been unable to locate him since his detention.

Carrion believes that the witch hunt launched by the Ortega regime is aimed at accumulating hostages, to force a negotiation with the USA.

Alejandro Bendaña: “Institutions are useless to you; be outraged, don’t make compromises, remember the future.”

Urrejola pointed out that the events this week in Nicaragua show “a new phase of the repression regarding the coming elections.”

The UN and other rights groups are condemning the Ortega government over its mounting crackdown on opposition ahead of November elections.

Human Rights Watch warns that the arrests and home raids are part of a “government strategy” to eliminate political competition.

“My wife Desiree Elizondo and I left Nicaragua to protect our freedom. The exercise of journalism and reporting the truth is not a crime.”

The well-known writer told Argentina’s “El Clarin” daily that he fears imprisonment, amid Ortega’s wave of vengeance against his detractors.
