Cuba Drills Its Longest Oil Well
HAVANA TIMES, Aug. 28 – The drilling of a 5,904-metrer-long oil well, the largest in the history of Cuba, concluded in the province of Matanzas, some 60 miles east of the Cuban capital, reported IPS.
The state-run Cubapetróleo was in charge of the project, which began last January, and tests will be carried out before starting the extraction of heavy crude.
To date Cuban oil is used to generate a sizeable portion of the country’s electricity while Venezuelan oil is used for diesel, gasoline, other refined products and the remaining power plants.
