Cuba Reports on Tropical Storm Bret
HAVANA TIMES, July 18 — Cuba’s weather experts note that Tropical Storm Bret has formed off the eastern coast of Florida and northwest of the Bahamas and at this time do not see it posing any threat to Cuba.
The Cuban Meterorlogy Institute (INSMET) located Bret at 6:00 a.m. Monday morning 105 kilometers (70 miles) northwest of Gran Abaco, Bahamas. The storm packs 85 kph (50 mph) winds.
INSMET sees Bret taking a turn in a north-northeasterly direction in the next 12-24 hours with possibilities of gaining some in intensity and organization.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Bahamas.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center in Miami is also projecting that Bret will move deeper into the open Atlantic and farther from the US eastern seaboard.
