Cuba Weather Experts Say Igor Weakens

HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 9 — Tropical Storm Igor was downgraded to a Tropical Depression on Friday, notes Cuba’s Meteorological Institute (INSMET).  The slow moving storm is now located 390 kilometers (242 miles) west of the Cape Verde Islands, off the northwestern African coast.

Igor currently packs winds of 55 kph (35 mph) and has a minimum central pressure of 1004 millibars.

Insmet predicts that Igor will incline its path to the west-northwest in the next 24-48 hours, increasing the speed of its movement and possibly gaining in organization and intensity.

The next Tropical Cyclone notice will be issued at 6:00 p.m. Cuban time (EST) on Friday.
