Fidel Castro Returns to U of Havana
HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 2 — Former Cuban President Fidel Castro will address students on the steps of the University of Havana on Friday morning at 7:30 a.m., the local press announced on Thursday. It will be the first open-air public speech by Castro since July 2006 when he came close to death with serious intestinal surgery.
While not stating the topic of his speech, the announcement states that it comes days before the beginning of the new school year and at a time when a possible new war in the Middle East could bring grave consequences for the world.
Back in November 2005, Fidel Castro gave a much quoted speech at the same venue in which he warned of the dangers to the Cuban revolution from internal corruption.
He should give an *updated* speech on internal corruption.
