Heavy Rains in Western Cuba

HAVANA TIMES – Heavy rainfall is expected to continue Saturday in Western Cuba, (Pinar del Rio, Havana, Artemisa, Mayabeque and Matanzas). The following notice was posted by the Cuban Civil Defense on Friday.

Note on Heavy Rains in the Western Region

According to information received from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) plentiful rainfall, strong and locally intense in the west, including the province of Matanzas, will continue to fall over the next 24 hours.

The civil defense mechanisms must closely watch the situation in their respective territories and increase monitoring in reservoirs, mountain regions, low lying areas near rivers and streams, and evaluate the measures to be taken in a timely and rationally manner to protect people and economic resources, with particular attention to communities that can be isolated.

Government entities, social institutions and the public should remain vigilant to information from the Institute of Meteorology and comply with the orientation of the Civil Defense and other local authorities.
