Ladies in White with the Cuban Cardinal
HAVANA TIMES — A meeting took place Thursday in the Archdiocese of Havana between Cardinal Jaime Ortega and a representative of the Ladies in White, reported DPA.
“What was most important was that (the Cardinal) was able to hear us,” said Berta Soler, the spokesperson for the dissident group, upon leaving the Archdiocese.
Soler told the press that the conversation with the Cardinal — which was also attended by Orlando Marquez, the editor of the magazine Palabra Nueva — was “very broad,” with moments of tension but also of peace.
Today the women will have a meeting at the Nunciature, said Yoani Sanchez, author of the blog “Generacion Y.”
This rapprochement between the Cuban Catholic Church and dissidents is coming after several weeks of exchanges of harsh criticism from both sides.
