Max Marambio Wins Arbitration Against Cuba in International Court
HAVANA TIMES — The International Court of Arbitration in Paris accepted the arguments of Chilean businessperson Max Marambio, who is suing the Cuban government for assets of the Rio Zaza company, reported La Tercera newspaper.
The international authority has thus ended the commercial alliance between the businessman and Havana, though its decision does not prevent Cuba’s authorities from trying Marambio under the island’s penal code.
The Cuban government is accusing the businessman of bribery, fraud and falsification of bank documents, which is why it closed two of his plants in 2010 and held $23 million of his assets, according to the Chilean newspaper.
