New Edition of Historic Interview with Fidel Castro
HAVANA TIMES, Feb 17 — A new edition of the historic interview granted by Fidel Castro to Tomas Borge twenty years ago was presented yesterday by the Nicaraguan writer and politician at the historic San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, the principal site of the Havana International Book Fair.
The volume contains opinions held by the Cuban leader in 1992 on issues of democracy, the possibility of changes in the island’s political structure, the revolutionary struggle in Latin America and Castro’s views on Stalin and Gorbachev.
“His words have a prophetic spirit. He foresaw the changes that were to occur in Latin America with the new currents and almost predicted that Hugo Chavez would come to power,” said the Nicaraguan intellectual in highlighting what he described as “the effects of Fidel Castro’s ideas.”
The former Cuban president has been active during the book fair presenting a book of his own memoirs, in addition to holding a nine-hour meeting with writers invited to the annual event.
