Stories about Latinos in the US Published in Cuba
HAVANA TIMES, Feb 17 — The book “The Forbidden Stories of Marta Veneranda” by the Cuban-born writer Sonia Rivera-Valdes, was presented here yesterday at the Havana International Book Fair, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
The volume had been previously awarded the Special Prize for Hispanic Literature from the United States in 1997 by the Casa de las Americas.
With an autobiographical and a testimonial air, in her work Valdes recreates the life experiences of Latino immigrants in the United States.
Rivera-Valdes, 75, arrived in New York in 1966 and is currently a professor with the Department of Foreign Languages ??at York College.
