Unauthorized March Blocked in Cuba
HAVANA TIMES, April 26 — For the second straight Sunday, the Ladies in White, a small group of wives and mothers of political prisoners in Cuba were prevented from carrying out what had been their weekly march in Havana to demand their loved ones release.
With the island holding local elections on Sunday, the BBC reported that “Six women – known as the Ladies in White – were surrounded by an angry mob of pro-government supporters and then pushed off the street into a park.
“The women stood silently for several hours as the crowd shouted insults and pro-revolutionary slogans,” noted the report.
Cuban authorities say the “Ladies” do not possess a permit to march in the capital.
