US Monitoring Links Between Spanish and Cuban Companies
HAVANA TIMES, March 22 — The United States government is continuing to harass Spanish firms that have commercial interests in Cuba, according to a report that broke on Wednesday in Spain’s El Pais newspaper.
The latest of these episodes involves the Telefonica company, whose president received a letter from the US Securities Exchange Commission asking for an explanation about the assets, business interests and business operations that the Spanish company maintains in Cuba.
Telefonica recognized that it has maintained contacts related to “the sale of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba” (ETECSA), but that it has “not reached any agreement and currently has no plans to carry out that or any other investment opportunity in Cuba.”
