Yellow Ribbons for 4 Cubans Jailed in USA
HAVANA TIMES – René González, the only free member of the five Cuban agents sentenced to long prison terms in the USA, made a call Wednesday on the island’s TV for all his compatriots to wear yellow ribbons for the release of their peers.
The initiative is inserted in the solidarity campaign starting today until September 12, the date back in 1998 when the Cuban Five were first imprisoned.
The idea of this action dates from the English Civil War, “when the wives of soldiers were waiting with yellow ribbons, and later entered United States culture,” said the former agent, who hopes the campaign will sensitize the American people to the demand to free the four Cubans.
According to the Cuban News Agency , activities on behalf of the jailed Cubans have begun in 42 countries.
