Yoani Sanchez’s Blog Visible in Cuba
HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 8 — Yoani Sanchez’s blog Generation Y had its filter taken off by the Cuban government on Tuesday and can now be seen by those who have Internet on the island, reported Reuters.
Sanchez blog was blocked in Cuba after she won a major journalism prize in the spring of 2008. She has since won numerous other awards for her acrid portrayal of life in Cuba. She has also established an alternative school for other bloggers.
The controversial 35-year-old has managed to keep up her website with the help of a network of supporters on different continents.
Invited to several awards ceremonies abroad, Sanchez has repeatedly been denied the exit permit required by the Cuban government for all citizens wishing to visit another country.
Felicidades por tan maravillosa Valentia;

a vuestras puertas.

Now that the cuban government has done the right thing — if even only in this limited (test) case — let’s see just how truly democratic Sanchez herself (and her backers) will be as a result… Expect to be underwhelmed — now that push has come to shove in this game of political ‘chicken’.
I may even have been on her blog; but only once: so I don’t remember if it even allows open commentary (one would assume so; but who knows with these people?). Not that I really care, eh?: because I myself won’t be allocating the infinite amount of time obviously required to devote to analyzing the thoughts of the bourgeoisie — and their agents in the intelligentsia and elsewhere. Rotsa ruck, Yoani…
According to EFE, Yoani has said that now that the blog is accesible, she is going to work to improve the design and other functions.
Up to now the strategy was to give the idea of a sober, not very sophisticated website made with a lot of effort.
Let’s see what Yoani and her Big-League Team are thinking of. A new season of the Generation Y soap opera has just begun. Enjoy it or change the channel.
