Cuban Boxing Team Champs in Czech Republic
HAVANA TIMES, March 26 — Six boxers from the island who have made it to the finals in Usti Nad Labem, the Czech Republic, won with no major setbacks to give Cuba the country title at the international boxing competition, reports the Juventud Rebelde newspaper.
Wins went to Olympic bronze light-welterweight Roniel Iglesias, light heavyweight champion Julius Caesar Cruz, welterweight Arisnoides Despaigne, the super-heavyweight Erislandi Savon, world lightweight runner-up Yasnier Toledo, and Jose Angel Larduet.
Two of the Cubans’ rivals did not show up for the finals and the quality of the remaining four rivals was not enough to defeat any of coach Rolando Acebal’s fighers. The Cuban boxers also won the title in February at the Strandja (Bulgaria) tournament.
