Evo Morales Visits Castro in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, June 10 – Bolivian President Evo Morales begins a working visit to Cuba on Wednesday where he is scheduled to meet with Cuban President Raul Castro, announced the Cuban press this morning. It is not known whether Morales will also meet with Fidel Castro.

Bolivia and Cuba are both members of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) which also includes Venezuela, Dominica, Nicaragua, Honduras and San Vicente and the Grenadines. Ecuador has also announced its intention to join.

The ALBA stresses fraternity among sister nations, solidarity, mutually beneficial trade and social development. It was originally founded as a counterweight to the Free Trade Area of the Americas, a now defunct profit-oriented project designed by the United States.
