Mariela Castro Attends Paris Event on Transsexualism

HAVANA TIMES — Mariela Castro, the director of the National Center for Sexual Education (CENESEX), participated in an international conference on  March 28-29 in Paris on Genders, Cultures and Society, where the issue of transsexuality was addressed, reported Prensa Latina.

The event is held since 2010 alternately in Havana and in France and focuses on social awareness, and involves psychologists, sociologists, philosophers, artists and members of civil society, said the daughter of President Raul Castro.

Castro said that for several years campaigns are conducted in Cuba to promote respect for freedom of sexual orientation and gender identity, and the state ensures comprehensive specialized health care for all people.

Each year CENESEX organizes a national campaign against homophobia and in May 2014 will also organize the Fourth Regional Conference of the International Lesbian and Gay Association for Latin America and the Caribbean, to be held in Varadero.
