Despite Ceasefire, Humanitarian Crisis Continues in Gaza

with 500,000 Displaced & 10,000 Injured

Democracy Now

HAVANA TIMES – The 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza has entered its final day. Talks are ongoing to extend the truce, but no agreement has been reached. Palestinian and Israeli officials are in Egypt, however have not held face-to-face negotiations on securing a lasting ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Gaza is in a state of devastation and ruin. Close to 1,900 Palestinians were killed during the 29-day conflict, including at least 1,354 civilians, of whom 415 are children. More than 10,000 people have been injured. There are 373,000 children who require psychological support.

Some 500,000 Palestinians have been displaced with 187,000 still living in U.N. emergency shelters. An estimated 10,000 homes have been completely destroyed, and 30,000 homes partially destroyed. On the Israeli side, 64 soldiers were killed in Gaza, and three civilians in Israel. We go to Jerusalem to speak with Christopher Gunness, a spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

  • Hamas’ leaders keep on breaking off ceasefire negotiations. It seems they really don’t want peace and are willing to fight to the last Palestinian …from the safety and comfort of their luxury condos in Qatar.

  • Oh the deaths of the Palestinain people are very much a matter of concern for the Hamas leadership. As far as they are concerned, the more dead civilians the better. From the perspective of their luxury condos in Qatar, the images of dead Palestinian women & children are as good as gold to Hamas’ head honchos. Literally. The longer this insane conflict goes on the more money these super thugs rake in from the EU, the UN, the US and all their usual pro-jihadi fanboys on the Muslim world. For Hamas, death is very profitable.

That’s all easy to figure out. They are in it for the money. But what about their Western enablers? What sort of sick psychology and inverted morality drives dull Brits and inane Norwegians into the streets in support if avowed genocidal terrorists? Is it simple good ol’ fashioned Jew hatred or does it come from some deep self-loathing, a desire to see themselves destroyed?

For make no mistake about it, the very same genocidal impulse which animates Hamas against the Jews is to be seen among the killers of ISIS currently engaged in beheading Christian children in Mosul.

Make no mistake. We are next.

  • This evenings news was that Hamas would continue its military campaign unless Israel agreed to all its demands. Israel reported two rockets being fired from Gaza into Israel three hours before the end of the 72 hour cease fire. Hamas obviously has no concern about the affect of this conflict upon the civilian population, its leader safely esconced in Qutar cares naught for the death and destruction in Gaza consequent to his decisions. Such is the action and lack of conscience of a terrorist, not that of a statesman or responsible politician. People are dying and for Hamas that is a useful tool not a matter of concern.

  • The casualty statistics are highly suspect. Hamas supplied the numbers to the foreign reporters who repeat them unquestioningly.

When a group of Gazans protested against Hamas, they were attacked, tortured and shot by Hamas. Then Hamas released their names as victims of Israel.
That’s was another Hamas war crime.

Over 100 rockets launched by Hamas actually fell inside Gaza, no doubt causing civilian casualties.

A statistical analysis by a NYT reporter demonstrated the dubious nature of the “civilian” claims:

The New York Times’ Jodi Rudoren compares figures from both sides, and surprisingly comes up with this in the middle.

The Times analysis, looking at 1,431 names, shows that the population most likely to be militants, men ages 20 to 29, is also the most overrepresented in the death toll: They are 9 percent of Gaza’s 1.7 million residents, but 34 percent of those killed whose ages were provided. At the same time, women and children under 15, the least likely to be legitimate targets, were the most underrepresented, making up 71 percent of the population and 33 percent of the known-age casualties.

That’s a war crime, by the way.

And in this video by NDTV, the reporter shows Hamas setting up a rocket launcher in the middle of a heavily populated district of apartments & hotels.

    Yet another Hamas war crime.
