Cuban Boxers Awarded by AIBA
HAVANA TIMES – Cuban fighters Javier Ibáñez and Erislandy Savon won two major annual prizes awarded by the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
Savon, a cruiserweight, received the title of best competitor of the IV World Series of Boxing, where he won eight fights, and was the pillar of the Cuban team that won the tournament. He generated praise among specialists from various countries.
Ibanez was at the top of juveniles for his leadership in the world championship of that category and the Youth Olympic Games. He was the best fighter in the first of those events.
In addition, coach Rolando Acebal was voted the top trainer of the World Series of Boxing, after guiding the Cuban team to a gold debut, with an overall balance of 63 victories and only 18 defeats.
The awards will be presented on November 24 at the South Korean city of Jeju, after the closure of World Championships for ladies.
