Fade Out: Mixed Medium Exposition
HAVANA TIMES, November 1.— A photo, painting and drawing exposition by Eduardo Ruben is the new show at the Villa Manuela Gallery in the Vedado district of Havana.
The exposition titled “Fade Out” includes 30 of the artists’ works.
Many of the pieces are of large format and have as a recurring and homogenizing element the presence of stars and sculptured stones that combine in large monumental collections -that for some will recall the heroic iconography of the “real socialism” of past decades, used here with a different sense and messages.
The somber colors, the cold textures as well as the preeminence of the inanimate object above the live figure could transmit to some an icy, crushing and overwhelming atmosphere.
The show is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through November 24 at the Villa Manuela Gallery, located at Calle H, No. 406 e/17 and 19 streets, Vedado. The telephone number is 832-2391.
“…Fade Out is a new creative phase as solid and significant as that experienced in the 1980s and 90s,” David Mateo, art critic, writing in the exposition catalogue.
