Matanzas Cyclist Leads Vuelta a Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 15 — Vicente Sanabria of Matanzas took over the lead in the 13-stage la Vuelta a Cuba cycling road competition on Sunday.

In the general individual qualification, Sanabria leads after the first six stages with a time of 20:24:28 hours, followed by Wilmen Bravo of Venezuela a full minute behind and Jaime Castañeda of Colombia at 1:04 back.  The Cuban Raul Granjel is fourth at 1:11.

Meanwhile, the sixth stage was won by the Dutch duo of Peter Woestenberg and Tim Nederlof of the Global Cycling team with Pedro Sibila (Universidad de Deporte, Cuba) finishing third.  All three clocked 2:29:55 hours.

In the by team standings:  Universidad del Deporte of Cuba leads with 61:15:56 hours, Team Cuba and Colombia are tied at 1:19 back and Sumglov of Venezuela is fourth at 2:33, followed by Team Venezuela at 3:42.

On Monday the cyclists will cover 131 kilometers between Ciego de Avila and Sancti Spiritus.
