Cuban-Venezuelan Kids Theater

HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 1 – I didn’t know that there was also a musical-theatrical group —or a theatrical-musical group— in Venezuela in which boys and girls performed.

What caught my attention was the huge number of kids at the entrance of the Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas. Someone told me this was because Cuba’s La Colmenita (beehive) was to perform, but then they added that there would be two Colmenitas: one from Cuba and the other from Venezuela.

For several years now, those “karajitos” (or “little faces,” as children are sometimes called in Venezuela) have also been here in Venezuela, enjoying themselves and making others have a good time as they sing, dance and perform works written by children.

Inside the theater, as could be expected, one could hear the cheerful buzz of thousands of children waiting to see their friends act and sing for first or second time; or, they were waiting impatiently for a greeting from Cucarachita Martina, Mouse Perez and the rest of the cast who —with songs, parodies and dances— would spend a Saturday afternoon making these children happy like on no other day.
