Dominica PM Skerrit Visits Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 14 — Roosevelt Skerrit, the prime minister of the Caribbean island nation of Dominica arrived in Havana early Tuesday heading up a delegation set to attend a meeting of Cuba with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Friday, Sept. 17,  at the Palco Hotel in the Cuban capital.

Skerrit told the local press that his visit seeks to further strengthen the ties between Cuba and Dominica and that he hopes for “constructive” meetings with the top Cuban authorities.

Dominica is a member of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) started by Venezuela and Cuba and later joined by Bolivia, Nicaragua, Ecuador, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Antigua and Barbuda.  Honduras was also a member but the leaders of the military coup in 2009 withdrew from the economic and social development alliance.
