The Best Cuban Wrestler of 2011
HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 3 — Michael Lopez, the Olympic champion in the 120-kilogram weight class in the 2008 Beijing Games, was selected yesterday as the “Best Wrestler in Cuba in 2011,” according to a report from the AIN news agency.
Lopez was a medalist in the recently concluded Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Venezuela’s ALBA competition. The athlete has already secured his qualification for the upcoming Olympic Games in London following his second world championship, which was held in Turkey.
Among the 10 best fighters in the country were: Livan Lopez (66 kilos – free style), Pedro Mulen (66 kilos – Greco), Pablo Shorey (84 kilos – Greco), Yunior Estrada (96 kilos – Greco), Lisset Echevarria (72 kilos – free style), Gustavo Balart (55 kilos – Greco), Katherine Videaux (63 kilos – free style), Jorgisbel Alvarez (74 kilos – Greco), Yuniesky Blanco (74 kilos – Greco) and Humberto Arencibia (84 kilos – free style).
